How We Handle Data
Good news first: Newsdump collects remarkably little about its readers. This page lays out exactly what does and does not happen when you browse the blog, who to contact about it and which rights you have.
Who runs the blog
Newsdump is published by a small team writing under pen names. For any privacy question or data request, email office@newsdump.net. Your message reaches the same people who write and maintain the site.
A static site, by design
Every page you see was generated ahead of time and is delivered as a plain file. There is no login, no comment section, no on-site search that records queries and no database of visitors. That setup means Newsdump does not use:
- analytics, statistics or heat-map tools;
- advertising networks, retargeting pixels or conversion tags;
- embedded social feeds or like buttons that load third-party code;
- any technique to identify or follow you from page to page.
Your cookie-banner choice
When you first arrive, a small card asks you to accept or decline. Whatever you pick is stored in your browser's localStorage so the card stays hidden afterwards. This entry holds only your answer, never leaves your device and is not used to recognise you. Delete it any time by clearing the stored site data for newsdump.net in your browser. The full explanation lives on Browser Data, Explained.
Request logs kept by the host
Like every website, Newsdump has to be served from somewhere. Our hosting provider's systems automatically note basic technical details when a page is requested: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string. These records exist to deliver pages reliably and to detect attacks or misuse. We do not use them to profile readers or link them with other data, and they are removed after a short period in line with the provider's retention practices. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure and stable site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, any name you include and whatever you put in the message. We use that solely to reply and, where relevant, to fix or update an article. Your message is not shared, sold or added to any mailing list, and we delete correspondence once the conversation is finished and nothing remains to follow up. The form on our Contact page only opens your own email app; nothing is transmitted until you send it yourself.
Links to other websites
Now and then a post points to a website run by somebody else. Click through and you are on someone else's turf: their privacy rules apply, and what they gather is beyond our reach.
Your rights under the GDPR
If data protection law such as the GDPR applies to you, you can ask us:
- to confirm whether we hold personal data about you and to give you a copy;
- to correct details that are wrong or incomplete;
- to erase your data or restrict how we use it;
- to hand over data you provided in a portable format;
- to stop processing based on legitimate interest, by objecting.
Send requests to the address above and we will answer within the period the law sets. You are also free to complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work.
Children
Newsdump is a general-interest blog and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
