Reader Q&A
A handful of questions land in our mailbox week after week. Rather than answer them one by one, we have gathered the most common ones here. If yours is missing, the Contact page is one click away.
About the blog
What is Newsdump, in one sentence?
A small blog of quick, practical reads about phones, the internet, social media, hobbies and everyday how-to jobs.
Who writes the articles?
A tiny team publishing under pen names. You can meet them on The Newsroom Crew. We do not claim professional titles; we research carefully, test steps where we can and say so when something depends on your device or situation.
How often do new posts appear?
There is no fixed timetable. We publish when an article is ready and properly checked, which suits a small team better than a daily quota.
Using the articles
The menus on my phone look different. Is the guide wrong?
Possibly just older than your software. Phone makers rename and move settings regularly, and Android menus differ between brands. Try the search box at the top of your settings app with the feature name, and please tell us so we can update the steps.
Am I allowed to share a post or quote a few lines?
Sharing links is always welcome. Short quotes are fine with credit and a link back. Copying whole articles is not; the details are in our House Rules for Readers.
Can you fix my device or recover my files?
We are not a repair or support service, so we cannot. The official help pages and support channels of your device maker or app are the best route. Our guides on backing up photos can at least make sure the next mishap is less painful.
Ideas and feedback
Do you take topic suggestions?
Yes, and gladly. Many articles start as a reader's question. Tell us what you are stuck on and, if it fits the blog, it goes on the list.
Where do I report a mistake?
Email office@newsdump.net with the article title and what looks wrong. Corrections get priority.
Privacy and the site itself
Does Newsdump keep tabs on which posts I open?
No. Newsdump has no analytics or tracking tools. The only thing saved is your answer to the cookie card, kept in your own browser, as explained on Browser Data, Explained.
Is there a newsletter or account?
Not at the moment. The blog has no sign-ups, so there is nothing to subscribe to or log in to. Bookmark the homepage or browse a section such as Technology whenever you fancy something new.
Got a topic idea?
Suggestions help us plan.
Rapid-fire answers
Quick questions from our readers' phones and craft bags
Short answers to the follow-up questions our how-to articles tend to spark.
Does offloading an iPhone app wipe my data?
No. Offloading removes the app itself but keeps its documents and settings, so reinstalling it brings everything back. Deleting the app is the option that removes its data.
Is a cloud photo service a backup?
Not on its own. Most services sync, which means a deletion on one device can spread everywhere. Keep at least one separate copy, such as an external drive.
Will a focus mode block calls from my family?
Only if you let it. You can add favourite contacts or allow repeated calls so that urgent rings still get through.
Do I need expensive yarn to learn knitting?
Not at all. A smooth, light-coloured acrylic or wool blend in a medium weight is cheap, forgiving and shows each stitch clearly.
Is it worth buying views to kick-start a channel?
No. Bought views break platform rules and tell you nothing about what real viewers enjoy. Clear thumbnails, honest titles and steady uploads build a lasting audience.
