About Newsdump

Newsdump is a compact blog for people who want the useful bit of a tech story without wading through a wall of jargon. We cover the gadgets in your pocket, the services you sign in to every morning and the pastimes you reach for when the screen finally goes dark. Short headlines, clear steps, and then you get on with your day.

What lands on the desk

Our articles are filed under five sections, each with its own flavour:

  • Technology — phone settings, storage clean-ups and the bigger shifts in how money and devices work.
  • Internet — cloud services, backups and the online tools that quietly hold our digital lives together.
  • Social Media and marketing — channels, content and honest ways to grow an audience.
  • Hobbies — knitting needles, notebooks, match nights and other things that keep hands and heads busy.
  • Guides — step-by-step help for jobs that look bigger than they are, from inbox clean-outs to business admin.

How we like to write

Every piece starts with a real question someone might type into a search box at eleven at night. We answer it as directly as we can, then add the context that stops you from making the obvious mistake. If a menu name differs between phone makers, we say so. If a step deletes something for good, we flag it before you get there.

We also keep things in proportion. A new app feature is not a revolution, and an overflowing inbox is not a personal failing. Most digital chores shrink to a quarter of an hour once you know the shortcut, and that is the feeling we want every reader to leave with.

Where to begin

New here? Three reads give a good taste of the blog:

  1. How to Turn Off Notifications Without Missing What Matters — a calmer phone in one sitting.
  2. How to Back Up Photos So You Never Lose Them — the routine that saves holiday snaps.
  3. How to Learn to Knit as a Complete Beginner — proof that we do log off sometimes.

The small print, kept small

We are writers, not a repair shop or a help desk, and our articles are general information rather than personal advice for your exact device or account. Screens and menus change with updates, so if something looks different on your phone, the settings search box is your friend. Spotted an outdated step? Tell us through the Contact page and we will look at it.
